Jakob August Lorent

Travel, explore, and record: This was the credo that motivated Lorent (1813-1884), an explorer and photographer born in the U.S. and raised in Germany, to set out into the world. His desire to explore and his passion for photography often led him to travel to the Orient… until he lost his heart to Merano, where – in this very house in the Freiheitsstrasse 50 – he spent his twilight years.
